2015 was an enormous year in the superhero world. With movies, TV shows and comics, the year was extremely happening. Here is a roundup of what happened in the space.
Convergence – Comic
Convergence is a two-month weekly limited series, published by DC Comics, which ran from April 2015 to May 2015. The Series revolves around the final issues of the weekly series, Earth 2: World's End and The New 52: Futures End. The story is about super villain Braniac collecting cities and it’s people from various timelines that have ended, trapping them in domes on a planet outside of time and space and opening them up to see what happens.
World of Superheroes
The legend Stan Lee along with Google’s YouTube on launched a channel called “World of Superheroes.” The program will see participants creating original superhero concepts and content for their channels. As part of this program, Stan Lee’s Pow! Entertainment will offer educational sessions with master stunt coordinators, visual-effects experts and costumes.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
This movie was one of the most successful movies not just in the superhero space but in general as well. The movie was release in the beginning of the year in 3D and grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide, making it the seventh-highest-grossing film and the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2015. Two sequels Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 are scheduled for release in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Armed with a suit and the ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, the movie revolves around Ant Man helping his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym to save the world. The movie opened to positive reviews and grossed more than $518 million worldwide. A sequel, titled Ant-Man and the Wasp, is scheduled to be released in 2018.
Marvel dominated the show
Marvel surely had the best 2015. Apart from releasing two super hit movies, the studio pushed out three new TV series: Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Agent Carter and another season of recurring television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the biggest hit of 2015
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was one of the most anticipated movies of 2015 and as expected did exceedingly well. In fact it is expected to swipe Avatar’s crown as the biggest-grossing film of all time. The film was promoted heavily and Disney Publishing Worldwide and Lucas film announced a series of 20 books and e-books, titled "Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens", with releases starting in late 2015, prior to the film.
